    Recreational Activities

At the confluence of the Yakima, Snake and Columbia rivers, this sun-soaked region of the Pacific Northwest offers a mix of outdoor recreation, urban charm, and historic roots, all within the Heart of Washington Wine Country.

This year’s Western Water Seminar is providing the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities allowing you to enjoy the local flare of the community while networking with others in the water industry.  These activities include golf, painting, and hiking. Activities will take place on the morning of Wednesday, July 24. You can select the activities you would like to participate in on your registration form.

    Golf Outing

Join your colleagues on the links of Columbia Point Golf Course.  Columbia Point Golf Course is an upscale, daily fee facility built and owned by the City of Richland. It is a challenging course for all levels of golfers and is located on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains adjacent to the Columbia River. It boasts a variety of tee boxes and measures 6,571 yards from the Championship tees.  This James J. Engh design features mounded, rolling fairways and large, undulating greens. The parkland-style course opened in 1997.

This mini tournament will begin promptly at 7:00 a.m. with the first tee time at 7:00 a.m. and consecutive tee times following.  Breakfast is included in the fee and will be available at the clubhouse at 6:30 a.m. For those that don’t have transportation, staff will be coordinating car-pools to the course. If you need to rent clubs, please contact Cameron at: 509-946-0710. Lunch will be available at the hotel beginning at 12:00 noon. Fee Includes: Greens fee, cart, range balls, and breakfast. Rental clubs fees are not included and must be paid directly to the golf venue.

    Artistic Painting

NWRA has partnered with Art Your Way to bring a painting class to you. Instructors will bring everything you need to paint a beautiful landscape without having to leave the hotel. Whether you are an experienced painter, or this is your first time, you will have a wonderful time learning to use a brush in a relaxing environment. You will meet in the hotel ballroom at 9:00 a.m.

    Guided Hike

If you are a nature enthusiast, this activity is for you. Join your colleagues for a morning of hiking on beautiful Badger Mountain. The Friends of Badger Mountain acquired this land as open space to protect the ridgeline's beauty before it was permanently marred by the irreversible pressures of housing and commercial construction.

The Preserve is open to the public for muscle-powered use only. And it has quickly become one of the most popular Tri-Cities, Washington hiking trails. No motorized vehicles are allowed in the Preserve or on its trails. Hikers gain about 800 feet in elevation from base to summit; and since sagebrush is the tallest plant, a hike to the top affords spectacular vistas of the Tri-Cities and Yakima and Columbia River valleys.

New hiking trails have been established, and revegetation and restoration of several areas have been completed. Everywhere, black and rust-colored Basalt rocks are visible; left there by ancient Ice Age Floods. Sun-loving plants thrive in the colorful earth. And in spring, wildflowers paint the landscape in vibrant blues, yellows, whites and oranges. You will meet your NWRA Hiking Guide, John Crotty in the hotel lobby for a 7:00 a.m. departure.
